The Euro USD collapsed Thursday, falling over 100 tics by early morning. Currency traders day trading futures, specifically the Euro USD Futures watched the market find technical support in the vicinity of the 25-day moving average (1.3525), before inching back up to the 5-day moving average (1.3583 this morning). The question for currency traders trading tonight in the Euro Forex market is will the bears look to make another push at the low of 1.3523, or can the bulls defend this area and recover some loss ground? And what can we take from utilizing technical analysis in the June 2010 Euro Futures contract for tonight and early tomorrow morning?

The daily chart of the Euro USD (see top chart of the two charts below) shows that the Euro USD is trading within a bull flag formation (outlined in blue) and I think by looking at this chart it’s a little easier to see the importance of the area around the 25-day moving average (1.3529). A break below this area and technically there is nothing holding this market up. The weekly chart (see bottom chart of the two charts below) shows that the high of this week (1.3694) was just above the 13-week moving average (blue – 1.3646), which is still considered a pivotal area of technical resistance. A run up through this area and we might see some technical buying. Also notice the double bottom low between 1.3266 and 1.3283, which is also at the bottom of a bear flag technical formation (outlined in green). The only buffer between this double bottom low and the current price of the Euro is the 4-week moving average (red – 1.3523), which makes this area in my opinion that much more technically important.

Let’s get an even closer look at the Euro USD by looking at the 60-minute chart of the Euro Futures (see chart below). Currency traders have broken through the bottom of a bear flag formation (outlined in red) in the early hours of Thursday evening, only to be repelled by bulls defending the area around the 25-day moving average (1.3525). The area to watch in my technical opinion is going to be around both the 24-bar moving average (currently 1.3591) and the 5-day moving average (red – 1.3595). The Euro USD explodes to the upside at about 7:00AM Pacific Time. The 60-minute chart of the Euro USD Futures contract (see chart below) shows that the Euro USD found technical support near the bottom of a bull flag technical formation (outlined in blue). The bottom of the bear flag technical formation actaully became the area that the bulls were able to make a strong push from. The question for currency traders night trading the Euro Forex is can the bulls maintain their technical momentum, or will the bears look to counter? What can a currency trader discern from utilizing technical analysis in the Euro Futures market?

In my technical opinion, the area around the 5-day moving average (1.3604) as well as the bottom of the bull flag technical formation will be a pivotal area of technical support as well as a potential short-term downside target. The Euro USD is currently trading near yesterday’s close (1.3588). Currency Traders day trading futures, specifically the Euro USD are watching the market consolidate between the session low (1.3555) and the session high (1.3623), which is relatively tight range (see 60-minute chart below). The question for currency traders speculating in the Euro Forex is will currency traders look to make another upward push, or are the bears looking to counter yesterday’s huge rally? When utilizing technical analysis in the Euro Futures what are currency traders looking at?

The 5-minute chart of the June 2010 Euro USD Futures contract (see chart below) shows an area of concentrated volume between 1.3572 and 1.3606 (green rectangle), which might give traders an idea of technical strength depending on which side the Euro USD breaks. Since I’ve begun writing this technical update the Euro USD has broken through the top of this concentrated volume area and appears technically poised to test the high of the session (1.3623). The Euro USD opened Sunday night up over 200 ticks from last Friday’s close (1.3456). Currency Traders have been able to drive the Euro USD back down to the 24-bar moving average (1.3465) this morning (see top chart of the two charts below), but the question for currency traders now is will the bulls make another upward push in the Euro Forex today? In utilizing technical analysis in the Euro Futures what can currency traders day trading futures deduce from today’s early currency action?

The time based flow chart of the Euro USD (see bottom chart of the two charts above) illustrates an area of volume support between 1.3567 and 1.3586, which in my technical opinion is a key short-term area of technical support. This chart also illustrates volume resistance in the Euro USD between 1.3610 and 1.3638, which will be a pivotal area of intra-day technical resistance. The Euro USD looks like a rocket taking off from Cape Canaveral. Currency Traders trading the Euro USD this morning defended the area around the 24-bar moving average (blue – 1.3367, which turned out to be the launching pad to the upside (see chart below). You will also notice that Currency Traders blew through projected areas of technical resistance like a tank through a wall. The question for commodity traders day trading futures and utilizing technical analysis, specifically in the Euro Forex is how to navigate or play this current spike in the Euro Futures?

You will notice that above 1.3462 (top of concentrated volume area gray rectangle on the bottom) there wasn’t much in the way of concentrated volume; therefore in my opinion, this added to the ability of short-term bulls to push this market through the roof. If you look at the chart below (5-minute flow chart) you will notice areas of volume resistance (blue rectangles) and support (red rectangles). This flow chart clearly illustrates that bulls were buying the Euro Currency at the asking price between 1.3364 and 1.3376, which was also in the vicinity of the 24-bar moving average. It wasn’t a stop and go reversal in the Euro USD today, which lately has been somewhat the norm in the currency futures market. The rally in the Euro USD this morning was more like gentle waves that kept creeping up higher and higher. The difference between this kind of reversal and the rogue wave that I was expecting was big and caught me off guard. Now mind you, the result in both scenarios I’m describing is the same, which in regard to currency futures trading means the Euro Forex market reversed or kept creeping higher and higher. So, when utilizing technical analysis in the currency futures market, what do I see in the June 2010 Euro Futures contract (see chart below)?

The question for currency traders now is was this morning’s bounce a real indication of technical strength, or just another opportunity to get short? Notice that currency traders day trading the Euro USD finally were able to push this market back above the 24-bar moving average (blue), which has been a pivotal short-term area of technical resistance. Will they (currency bulls) have enough in their tanks to hold the Euro USD above this area for the rest of the day? The Euro USD (see chart below)is currently testing this week’s low (1.3326), which is just above the bottom of an area of concentrated volume (bottom of gray rectangle 1.3323). Below this area in the Euro Forex and there isn’t much in the way of volume, which means a move below this area could trigger a steep and quick sell-off. Currency Traders trading futures in the night market; I would advise you to be aware of the potential shallowness in the market below 1.3323 and to trade accordingly.

The Euro USD is down 30 ticks mid-morning and broke through yesterday’s low (1.3355) like a tank on a battle mission. The 60-minute chart of the Euro USD (see chart below) shows that the bears tested the bottom of an area of concentrated volume (gray rectangle between 1.3323 & 1.3462), but were unable to blow through this area. The question for currency traders day trading futures, specifically the Euro Futures is was the bounce off today’s low (1.3326) in the Euro Forex a show of technical strength, or are the bears setting a trap door?

Remember, technical analysis is a tool to assist currency traders in navigating the currency futures market. The Euro USD builds a volume base between 1.3366 and 1.3388 from which the Euro USD rallied from late Tuesday Morning. The 60-minute chart of the Euro Forex shows that the bulls were able to find technical support at and around 1.3355, which I will consider a pivotal area of technical support tonight. The question now is are currency traders thinking today’s move was more technically strategic, or based on strong downside momentum?

The technical area to watch tonight would be the 24-bar moving average (blue – 1.3411), which might give us some indication of technical strength.
